My Favorite Recordings

Let's start with my all time favorite.  The incomparable Quincy Jones.  I always admired Quincy's clarity of line and simplicity that made things cook.

From Quincy's 1969 album, Walking in Space, Benny Golson's classic Killer Joe.

Then there is Buddy and Big Swing Face from his 1966 album.  A true classic big band chart.  There is nothing better than sitting in the middle of a big band that really cooks.  -  Well maybe a couple of things but this is in the top 3.

So you want to play drums do you?

Take a listen to two of the very best.

Buddy Rich and Ed Shaughnessy on the Tonight Show.

Buddy Rich and the incredible Mel Torme doing Love For Sale.  If you ever wanted to learn to scat sing, Mel is the master.

Quincy and Frank - Few performers every get to the point where they are recognized by the first name only.
These are two of the best, doing Mack the Knife.

And what playlist would be complete without "The Hardest Workin' Man In Show Business."
When I was 16 years old and all my friends were listening to the Beatles, my favorite song was  Papa's Got A Brand New Bag.  Hit it James!
